...Ugh, I caught our dog eating a cat turd out of the litter box! I scolded her and then afterward… I can still barely believe what I saw… she darted back in and snapped up one last cat turd crumb!
Now if only the cats would eat the dog turds, I'll never have to buy dog food or cat food again, or even clean up after them.
Reminds me of the David Letterman joke- If your dog is constipated, why screw up a good thing?
Why screw up a good thing? Hmmm…
***And it gets better, just as I was going to post this, the dog ate some cat puke and the kids are having a blast running away from her.

I just watched The King on PBS's Independent Lens, one of the first movies in ages that I feel like I need to re-watch. It traces the life of Elvis as kind of a metaphor of America changing from post-WWII to modern day, while various people ride in his Rolls Royce across the country offering insight.

This is bizarre. When the connective tissue between the two hemispheres of the brain is cut something extraordinary happens. You can show a picture of an egg (for instance) to the left eye, which gets processed in the right hemisphere. Ask the person what they saw and the person will say they don't know (since the left hemisphere controls language, and the left hemisphere didn't see the egg.) BUT, let that person pick among a bunch of ten objects including an egg, and they will point to the egg. Ask the person why they picked it and they'll confabulate a story, like they had eggs for breakfast the other day or something. The right side knows why, but the right side is mute. There seem to be two conscious entities acting independently in one body. The extraordinary thing is that one consciousness seems to be cut in two with a pair of scissors, but how can that be???

People are scoffing at the president for his call for unity, but I don't see a problem with it. He's welcome to unite with the rest of us. (You don't think his call for unity was just a disingenuous demand for loyalty and subservience, do you?)

We've come a long way. Remember Jeb Bush's dopey "Please clap"? That weakness paved the way for an authoritarian bully who says you're treasonous for not clapping for him.

I surprised Gretel while she was running, and she tripped and hit her face on on the floor. Once she stopped crying she wanted me to kiss her bloody lip. What could I do? I kissed her bloody lip. "I tried to play a joke on her, but the joke was on me," I thought, as I reflected on the fact that her blood tasted iron-y.

Watched Ikiru again tonight. Good night to not have stomach cancer. The snow song:
life is brief.
fall in love, maidens
before the crimson bloom
fades from your lips
before the tides of passion
cool within you,
for those of you
who know no tomorrow
life is brief
fall in love, maidens
before his hands
take up his boat
before the flush of his cheeks fades
for those of you
who will never return here
life is brief
fall in love, maidens
before the boat drifts away
on the waves
before the hand resting on your shoulder
becomes frail
for those who will never
be seen here again
life is brief
fall in love, maidens
before the raven tresses
begin to fade
before the flame in your hearts
flicker and die
for those to whom today
will never return

The Hill- Trump: ‘Any negative polls are fake news’
Donald "Malignant Narcissist" Trump, is saying that anything negative toward him is a lie, anything positive is the truth.
Early in the primaries I was more afraid of Cruz that Trump, because Cruz knew he could do anything he wanted since God was on his side. Then I became more afraid of Trump, because Trump sees himself as God, and these quotes this morning are supporting evidence, as if we needed more.
Perhaps as someone's cognitive dissonance grows to unsafe levels their skin turns orange, a evolutionary survival mechanism held over from prehistoric times when we knew not to trust orange ones.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Peace
Good news, there hasn't been a war between major world powers since WWII. It's been referred to as The Long Peace.
No doubt there's been violence (like Vietnam), but international wars dropped from 6 per year in the 50's to 1 per year in the 2000's, while deaths dropped from 240 per million to 10 per million.
Why? Many reasons, from trade, to the empowerment of women, to the rise of human rights, to major improvements on poverty, and on and on. It's easy to overlook all of the increments of progress. There's no better time to be alive than now.
And now the bad news, Putin. Although we got to this point, the future is uncertain.

Joan Didion, Let Me Tell You What I Mean- “In many ways, writing is the act of saying I, of imposing oneself upon other people, of saying listen to me, see it my way, change your mind. It’s an aggressive, even a hostile act. You can disguise its aggressiveness all you want with veils of subordinate clauses and qualifiers and tentative subjunctives, with ellipses and evasions—with the whole manner of intimating rather than claiming, of alluding rather than stating—but there’s no getting around the fact that setting words on paper is the tactic of a secret bully, an invasion, an imposition of the writer’s sensibility on the reader’s most private space.
