Oozy Rat In a Sanitary Zoo, and the Prayer-Peekers
The second I saw the David S. Pumpkin skit, I knew it was one for the ages. You don't have too many Atlantic articles written on Saturday Night Live skits. How did they do it? A gem.

Bryce Harper, NLCS MVP interview, after hitting possibly the greatest home run in history of the Phillies organization, one that ended up sending them to the 2022 World Series.
"It's Phillies, man. It's Philly, man. They hate you. You know, like the other team, on the other side, they can't stand you. You know, unless you're wearing Phillies red, or you're a Philly, they don't like you, you know. And I love that. I loved coming in as an opposing player knowing I was going to get blasted by these fans. And it was what it was. And I loved it. It made me want to come here to play, because I knew how much they love their players and how much they cared, and I knew how much passion they have, how much drive they all have. Everybody talks about the blue collarness of this city and the fight that they have, and it just rubs off on all of us. I've said it multiple times, you know, if we have 46,000 in the stadium, that's 46,026 because we're all in this together no matter what, where they're at, who they are, where they come from. If you got Phillies across your chest and you're a fan, you're part of our team, you're part of her organization, and you fight with us each day."

Gretel did the strangest thing tonight while she was going to sleep. She was laying in bed and said, "Now I'm going to add 10 + 10 + 3." Maybe 10 seconds later she said the answer was 23. I asked her how she did it and she said she was counting on her fingers under the covers but wasn't looking at them- she was "counting the fingers in my head." Huh, wow. Then she said she was going to do 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 3. Maybe 30 seconds later she said the answer was 53. So she was counting on her fingers in her head which were under her covers while also keeping track of how many tens she counted. It seemed like a lot to be going on in 5-year-old's head, I was impressed.

Everything is Best
When Banzan was walking through a market he overheard a conversation between a butcher and his customer.
'Give me the best piece of meat you have,' said the customer.
'Everything in my shop is the best,' replied me butcher. "You cannot find here any piece of meat that is not the best.'
At these words Banzan became enlightened.

I have a kidney stone, which as far as I'm concerned proves the argument for unintelligent design.
October 26, 2017
Postscript- It wasn't a kidney stone, it was some fused insides from my appendectomy. And guess what, it got better. In the moment though, my god, I'd have a brief second of a fluttery feeling and then it felt like I made a mistake in a Friday the 13th movie. Once I was in an interview, and almost freaked out in pain.

When it comes to tax breaks, we now know what Trump and the Republicans would do- give million dollar tax cuts to billionaires. These guys wake up in the morning, look in the mirror, ask what would Jesus do, and then spend the rest of the day doing the exact opposite! If they really want to give the money to billionaires the least they could do is give it to us to invest in the billionaire's companies. Why give it to billionaires directly when so many are struggling? Simple answer is their new motto- Billionaires First!

On this day in 1881- The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. Wyatt, Virgil, Morgan Earp and Doc Holliday left three of their rivals dead in a 30 second shootout. This event formed the basis of my favorite movie, My Darling Clementine, and became a symbol of sorts of order coming to the untamed West. I think I might watch it tonight.

Hillary Rodham Clinton, from 'Women's Rights Are Human Rights' Speech Beijing, China: 5 September 1995
It is a violation of human rights when babies are denied food, or drowned, or suffocated, or their spines broken, simply because they are born girls.
It is a violation of human rights when women and girls are sold into the slavery of prostitution.
It is a violation of human rights when women are doused with gasoline, set on fire and burned to death because their marriage dowries are deemed too small.
It is a violation of human rights when individual women are raped in their own communities and when thousands of women are subjected to rape as a tactic or prize of war.
It is a violation of human rights when a leading cause of death worldwide among women ages 14 to 44 is the violence they are subjected to in their own homes.
It is a violation of human rights when young girls are brutalized by the painful and degrading practice of genital mutilation.
It is a violation of human rights when women are denied the right to plan their own families, and that includes being forced to have abortions or being sterilized against their will.
If there is one message that echoes forth from this conference, it is that human rights are women's rights - and women's rights are human rights. Let us not forget that among those rights are the right to speak freely - and the right to be heard.

The 2020 World Scrabble championship decided to disallow using the N-word and other slurs, a position supported by a higher percentage of white people than black people. (Again, remember that my position is supported by a higher number of black people than white people, if that's the type of thing that matters to you.)
