Gods Among Us, Coming and Going

Oh my goodness... remember after the first debate when Jill Biden congratulated Joe, saying, "You answered EVERY question!" Apparently Kristi Noem is playing her in the remake. Except he didn't answer any questions. He just stood there looking dumb and swaying for a half hour while people left. Oof.

*Note that it was sacrilegious to use some of these songs. Willie Geist said it was a strange mix of Pavarotti and Guns 'N Roses, haha.

The Wall Street Journal surveyed 50 economists, asking which 2024 candidate’s policies will lead to higher inflation. About 68% said Trump's policies would cause higher inflation, and about 10% said Harris's policies would. Seems noteworthy coming from the Wall Street Journal, whose credibility is on the line with this type of analysis, especially after the report that inflation has returned to normal.

Why am I nervous about this election? Kamala Harris is the sitting vice president, which gives her the power to overturn the election results under her sole discretion. That's how Trump-style democracy is supposed to work, right?

If Trump wins in 2024, and the Democrats win in 2028, and you think there would be a peaceful transfer of power back to them, it would help to look more closely at Trump and Vance's words and actions. This detail alone should be enough to vote against them in 2024.

Andrew Yang is wearing a MATH pin. Not an American flag pin... a math pin. A math pin. Where do you even buy a math pin? Can't argue with that pin, that's for sure. I like the implication... "I believe in absolute truth." Why is he wearing it? No, why isn't everybody??? Universal Basic Income, can it work? My head says maybe but that pin screams- "YES!"

His note to Democrats... forget battling the subpoenas, he's admitted to an impeachable act. (Btw, if you did nothing wrong, wouldn't you WANT people testifying on your behalf?)

After the election there was much talk that Democrats need to empathize with Middle Americans who felt left behind. Any Republicans who feel like empathizing with the other side now have their chance- they can close their eyes and imagine Democrats just elected Harvey Weinstein President of the United States.

Great week for Trump! (Bad week for us.)

-decertified the Iran Deal over the objection of Mattis

-still pushing for war with North Korea over Tillerson's push for diplomacy

-Mnuchin admits the estate tax repeal will disproportionately benefit the wealthy (no kidding)

-sabotages health care causing expected increased premiums of 20%

-lets business deny birth control coverage to women and people can now be fired for being gay, both under the guise of religious liberty (theocracy masquerading as democracy)

-coal is now the future

-Republican leaders say his irresponsible words could lead to World War III, and are openly critical of his stability, competence, intelligence, etc.

At least he's taking a nice vacation though! Why do people criticize him for taking taking too much vacation? He could literally make America great again by taking a permanent vacation.

Does that seem smart? At times it seems almost 100% certain that any civilization would wipe itself out before it would be technologically savvy enough to communicate or travel to others. It could explain the apparent silence from outer space.

English novelist and playwright, P. G. Wodehouse, was born on this day in 1881. No greater an expert than Christopher Hitchens believed him to be, "the finest purveyor of the English language."

"He had just about enough intelligence to open his mouth when he wanted to eat, but certainly no more."

Stephen Fry- "I have written it before and am not ashamed to write it again. Without Wodehouse I am not sure that I would be a tenth of what I am today -- whatever that may be. In my teenage years, his writings awoke me to the possibilities of language. His rhythms, tropes, tricks and mannerisms are deep within me. But more than that, he taught me something about good nature. It is enough to be benign, to be gentle, to be funny, to be kind."

Michel Foucault was born on this day in 1926. From Madness and Civilization: A History of Insanity in the Age of Reason:

From Follies of God

"This 1945 photograph by W. Eugene Smith hung above Tennessee Williams' work desk for a number of years. Tenn told me: "I think that I always thought of my characters as I do these children: vulnerable, hopeful, lost. Now I find that I think of my fellow men as I do these children: vulnerable, hopeful, lost; a little sweet. It has made the act of living infinitely easier, kinder.""
