Lag Ja Gale, and Other Truths
Trump endorsed Mark Robinson for governor of North Carolina, saying that he's, "Martin Luther King on steroids," and "Martin Luther King times two."
Now it turns out that Robinson has described himself as "a black Nazi."
Has there ever been an easier political layup? Trump and Vance need to pull their endorsement.
When asked, Trump said he, "doesn't know anything about the situation."
Number one, yes he does. Number two, until he pulls his endorsement, he is quite literally endorsing a black Nazi for governor of North Carolina.
To continue to support somebody who endorses a black Nazi, would be to support Abraham Lincoln on heroin and cocaine, times 100.

From Golden Age of Hollywood:
When Brigitte Bardot met Picasso at his studio at Vallauris outside Cannes during the film festival of 1956. She was apparently keen to become his muse and felt disappointed that he didn’t wish to paint her, although he never said why.

There's a meme going around, I'm not going to repost it. "Gays against Islamophobia," with some gay people marching in a parade with a banner... then, "Islam against gays," with some Muslims throwing a blindfolded and presumably gay person off a building.
Let's face it, that is the truth in many parts of the world.

You know, maybe this is a grand Democratic sexual assault conspiracy against Kavanaugh (even though he doesn't believe the accuser is involved.) That would explain how they kept Gorsuch off the bench by convincing everybody he was the reincarnation of Ed Gein.

On this day in 1941, Ted Williams pulled off what I consider one of the most spectacular feats in all of sports. He went into the day hitting .39955. If he wanted, he could have taken the day off and it would have been rounded up to .400. Legend has it, he could have taken off the previous day and the double header the last day and preserved a .401 average. He didn't consider any of that, and went six for eight in the doubleheader the last day, including a home run to end the year at .406. Imagine the pressure! Nobody had hit .400 since 1930, and no one has done it in the 81 years since.

Indian playback singer, Lata Mangeshkar, was born on this day in 1929, and just died this year due to Covid. One afternoon I spent an hour or two looking for a song that had run through my head for years. I couldn't remember one word of course. All I could remember was the girl walking through weeping willow type trees and the man guardedly warming up to her. It was Lag Ja Gale, with a quarter billion views, certainly 100 from me.

Herman Melville left us on this day in 1891. From Moby Dick:
"Death is only a launching into the region of the strange Untried; it is but the first salutation to the possibilities of the immense Remote, the Wild, the Watery, the Unshored; therefore, to the death-longing eyes of men, who still have left in them some interior compunctions against suicide, does the all-contributed and all-receptive ocean alluringly spread forth his whole plan of unimaginable, taking terrors, and wonderful, new-life adventures; and from the hearts of infinite Pacific's, the thousand mermaids sing to them--"Come hither, broken-hearted; here is another life without the guilt of intermediate death; here are wonders supernatural, without dying for them. Come hither! bury thyself in a life which, to your now equally abhorred and abhorring, landed world, is more oblivious than death. Come hither! put up thy gravestone, too, within the churchyard, and come hither, till we marry thee!" Hearkening to these voices, East and West, by early sun rise, and by fall of eve, the blacksmith's soul responded, Aye I come! And so Perth went a-whaling."

a conversation
Here's a conversation Emma and I had tonight after she got home:
Ben- I did something responsible tonight. Only one of our four smoke detectors had a working battery, so I replaced the others.
Emma- Good. You're very good.
Ben- And I bought cat food.
Emma- Good. You're very good.
Ben- And I bought licorice.
Emma- Good. You're very good.
Ben- And I bought new sneakers.
Emma- Good. You're very good.
Ben- And their brand name is EZ Strider.
Emma- (silence)
Now she's going to bed and I'm going to drink some wine and watch Ken Burns' Civil War documentary, and try to imagine what my great-great-great grandfather would think of how easy I have it.
