Not Smelling Her In the Right Place
George Stephanopoulos asked conservative columnist George Will about the Republican opposition to the January 6th Commission, adding that it's strange that it's even controversial.
George Will- "Well it's controversial for one reason. We have something new in American history, and that is a political party defined by the terror it feels for it its own voters. That's the Republican party right now. Every elected official is frightened of their voters, therefore doesn't respect their voters, therefore doesn't like their voters, and is afraid that a vote for this is seen as an insult to the 45th president."
So once again we have an investigation that is the problem, and not the problem itself.

On this day in 1980, The Shining was released. I'm all in on the theory that it's a metaphor of the genocide of the Native Americans. It was released on Scatman Crothers 70th birthday. "How about some ice cream Doc?"
Wow, Jack Nicholson constantly, and imperceptibly, breaks the fourth wall in the Shining. I knew about the one by the freezer door from the documentary but didn't realize there were tons. I think it's to give us a subconscious feeling of unease.

True story, sad.

Strange to think that somebody who butchers a steer and eats several pounds of beef every week for a couple years is responsible for less loss of life than someone else who eats a poorly washed piece of lettuce that had two bugs on it.

From this day in 2010:
Emma's mom's filthy joke
B- Quit kissing the cat!
MJ- Why?
B- Cause I like kissing her, and when I'm kissing her I don't want to be kissing you.
MJ- Ben! Why would you even think of that? And besides, it's not nice to say you don't want to kiss me.
B- What should have I said?
MJ- Well I don't know. Hey, you know, she doesn't smell like shampoo. (I had told her that I had to give her a bath after a litter box mishap a couple days ago.)
B- Maybe your not smelling her in the right place.
MJ- BEN!!! WHAAAAAAAT???
B- What? (Quiet)
MJ- Maybe you weren't kissing her in the right place.
B- That's filthy!
MJ- I know. (laughs) I'm not even sure how it's a joke, but it's definitely filthy.

Politico- Brennan: Russia may have successfully recruited Trump campaign aides
Let's just imagine that Trump was cash poor, say 10 years ago. And say the Russians gave him a bunch of money, perhaps in the form of a $50 million mansion an oligarch bought for $100 million. Hear me out! And say the Russians wanted him to try to influence American politics in favor of Russian, and had something to hold over his head to ensure he followed through. And say that his popularity got out of control and he kept trying to say more vile and ludacris things so that he wouldn't get elected. And say that he kept acting more and more unhinged after he was elected with the intent of getting impeached before this self-made hell could progress and further, even going so far as to take multi-million dollar taxpayer-funded golf trips every weekend. Well accepting those hypotheticals, DONALD J. TRUMP IS A GOD DAMN NATIONAL TREASURE! He made a mistake but he did everything he could to fix it. We just wouldn't let him.

Mashable- Why we're right to be cynical about that 'Mad Men' final scene
I did love the ending of Mad Men, and I did interpret cynically which is the opposite of Matthew Weiner's intention. And this article saves me all the time it would take to put it in my own words.

16 Cognitive Distortions, Positive Psychology, by Courtney Ackerman
#2. Overgeneralization
This sneaky distortion takes one instance or example and generalizes it to an overall pattern. For example, a student may receive a C on one test and conclude that she is stupid and a failure. Overgeneralizing can lead to overly negative thoughts about yourself and your environment based on only one or two experiences.

Bonnie and Clyde were ambushed by police and killed in Bienville Parish, Louisiana on this day in 1934. I tend to root for the criminals who evaded the police back them, but not these two. Hollywood transformed them into perhaps the most glamorous couple in film history, but these were awful people. John Dillinger would rob a bank and leave a hundred dollar tip. Bonnie and Clyde would kill the waitress for ten dollars.

Nafisa Haji, The Sweetness of Tears- "There is an old Arab Bedouin saying: I, against my brothers. I and my brothers against my cousins. I and my brothers and my cousins against the world. That is jungle law. It is the way of the world when the world is thrown into chaos. It is our job to avert that chaos, to fight against it, to resist the urge to become savage. Because the problem with such law is that if you follow it, you are always fighting against someone."

Bob Dylan, The Bob Dylan Scrapbook: 1956-1966- “DESTINY is a feeling you have that you know something about yourself nobody else does. The picture you have in your own mind of what you're about WILL COME TRUE.
