Hitler Assassinates Hitler

Hitler did the best thing of his life on this day in 1945. He assassinated Hitler!

You know the old saying, "In the land of the two balled-men, the one-balled man wants to be king."

...

What kind of a loser wants an authoritarian in charge? Yet authoritarianism is on the rise. Seems just to be a matter of time. George Washington was inaugurated first president on this day in 1789, a faux meaningful fact to those people who fancy themselves as pro-America really yet wish we still had a king.

This article ends on a eye-opening note. The interviewer had just asked him about his town hall answer that he wouldn't be a dictator, except on day 1 to deal with the border. He had said he was kidding.

"Whether or not he was kidding about bringing a tyrannical end to our 248-year experiment in democracy, I ask him, Don’t you see why many Americans see such talk of dictatorship as contrary to our most cherished principles? Trump says no. Quite the opposite, he insists. “I think a lot of people like it.”"

Trevor Noah, at the White House Correspondents' Dinner tonight:

"Ask yourself this question: If Russian journalists, who are losing their livelihoods and freedom for daring to report what their own government is doing, if they had the freedom to write any words, To show any stories, or to ask any questions— if they had basically what you have—Would they be using it in the same way you do? Ask yourself that question everyday, because you have one of the most important roles in the world."

My idea of a perfect joke, by Groucho Marx:

"Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read."

...

Roger Sterling- “Nobody knows what I’m doing. It’s good for mystique.”

...

When I see my dog outside rolling around on her back delightedly, it can only mean one thing- trouble.

One of the greatest mathematicians in history, Carl Friedrich Gauss, was born on this day in 1777. The international unit of magnetic induction is called the gauss. When your last name can drop the uppercase letter for a lowercase letter, making it a legal word in Scrabble, you must have made it!

"It is not knowledge, but the act of learning, not the possession of but the act of getting there, which grants the greatest enjoyment."

...

Dan Rather- "We can't function as a nation of law if we can't trust the Attorney General to tell the truth. Reporting of Mueller's letter to Barr protesting the contextualization of the Russian investigation is a bombshell. The AG's job is to serve the public not protect the president."

Roman poet Lucan died on this day in AD65.

"As far as the stars are from the earth, and as different as fire is from water, so much do self-interest and integrity differ."

...

Bertrand Russell, Understanding History and Other Essays- "The man who thinks himself virtuous in fearing an angry God will soon begin to see virtue in submission to earthly tyrants."

...

Hitler- "We tolerate no one in our ranks who attacks the ideas of Christianity. Our movement is Christian."

...

Cloris Leachman was born on this day in 1926. Her performance in The Last Picture Show is in the absolute highest echelon for me. I think I'd rank it as my favorite best supporting actress role in film history. She participated in the roast of Bob Saget, witnessing firsthand one of the greatest moments in stand-up comedy history- Norm MacDonald's old-time joke book roast, designed to bomb while simultaneously delighting the comedians in attendance. She ended up on the correct side of history on that one, amused. She also has this quote under her belt:

"I've been so relieved and so grateful to not have a God to believe in."

Oh my goodness, me too. Imagine if God was real and we had a celestial dictator that we had to bow down to. Without god, we can be good just for the sake of goodness alone. Goodness, of course, precedes all religion.

Gauss again, in a letter to his friend, "I believe you are more believing in the Bible than I. I am not."

...

A lesson I just taught my daughter- "Walrus Man got his arm chopped off because he was being bad."

Let's face it, Trump deserves some credit. In only 100 days he has single-handedly united the country- 100% of us want to make America great again!

On this day in 1803, the United States doubled its landmass with the Louisiana Purchase. Not bad for 15 million dollars.

...

I walked with a zombie was released on this date in 1943. A beautiful film, ahead of its time, and introduced a feeling of darkness and uneasiness to films, certainly a result of our uncertain future in World War ii.

...

Kelly Oxford- "Thinking about your eyes behind your shut eyelids is a terrible way to try and fall asleep."

...

Bobby Vee was born on this day in 1943 in Fargo, North Dakota, most famous for his song, Take Good Care of My Baby. God damn I love that song!

Well, take good care of my baby

Be just as kind as you can be

And if you should discover

That you don't really love her

Just send my baby back home to me.

...

Kirsten Dunst was born on this day in 1982 while Porky's was #1 at the box office. In 2004, she starred as Mary in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

She read from Alexander Pope's poem "Eloisa to Abelard":

How happy is the blameless vestal's lot!

The world forgetting, by the world forgot

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!

Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd.

...

American railroader Casey Jones died in a train wreck on this day in 1900. Through his skill, he managed to save all the passengers by sacrificing himself. That's a way to go out.

...

Muddy Waters died on this day in 1983, a musical God to Bob Dylan.

"I rambled all the time. I was just like that, like a rollin' stone."

...

Children's book author, Richard Scarry, died on this day in 1994.

"There are all kinds of writers. The best writers write children's books."

That's not believable. Hey, you know who is the best person? Me!

Want another quote by him?

"What a wonderful person I am!"

...

Italian director, Sergio Leone, left us on this day in 1989.

"When I was young, I believed in three things: Marxism, the redemptive power of cinema, and dynamite. Now I just believe in dynamite."

...

Again, I'm reminded of a classic limerick.

Nymphomaniacal Alice

Used to dynamite stick for a phallus.

 They found her vagina

 In North Carolina,

And her asshole in Buckingham Palace.

...

The actor Peter Mayhew left us on this day in 2019. He was famous for his catchphrase- "RRRAARRWHHGWWR!!!"

...

Jackie Robinson hit four home runs against the Braves on this day in 1961.

...

Lucan again- "The gods conceal from men the happiness of death, that they may endure life."

...

Anne Frank's diary was published on this day in 1953.

“Where there's hope, there's life. It fills us with fresh courage and makes us strong again.”

...

Gauss again- "Life stands before me like an eternal spring with new and brilliant clothes."

...

Lost a Scrabble game to Leon Lutz, 439-435, but what is not captured in the final score is that he started out with three bingoes- OUTLETS, BENCHERS and NEGATES, and I nearly came back after being down 212-22. Great game!

Sadly, it appears that Naomi Judd committed suicide today. From River of Time, which she co-wrote:

“My future isn’t what it used to be, only today is all that’s promised me. Flow on, river of time, wash away the pain and heal my mind.”
